About Amira
Amira’s adventure started with her mum, taking her on adventures when she was younger, it wasn’t the norm in her community you didn’t see Muslim women on the mountains. This sparked a love for exploring and adventure which led Amira on a solo backpacking trip. This was a journey of self discovery.
Following a divorce, she connected with nature and the mountains, it became her healing space it became a place where she connected to God on a deeper level, at that moment she realised there wasn’t a space for Muslim women to connect and enjoy the outdoors. There wasn’t a space where they could heal or belong, she didn’t have a space she could go to and that’s when the idea developed. Amira wanted to create a group for Muslim women to host retreats, expeditions and adventures .
Five years later during lockdown she came back to this idea and had the courage to launch The Wanderlust Women. She put her vision to reality. She wanted to see more Muslim women in the mountains, and now we are here with hundreds of women who are adventuring and exploring. She is currently training to become a mountain leader and she is championing diversity in the outdoors.
